My sculptures explore the formalistic aspects of art. I am interested in the abstract. I am inspired and enjoy the processes that create my work, dominantly iron casting. I believe in immediate response to materials.
Most recently my sculptures are organic in nature and use a combination of materials; such as cast metal, bamboo, steal, and stone. Exploring ways of cold connecting all the materials in my sculpture is of great importance. The use of tourniquets in my sculpture is one solution to create both tension and a cold connection of materials.
To fully explore my ideas for sculpture, I need to create more than two pieces in a series. These pieces have a common bond with concept and process.
My other love and inspiration is the construction and use of iron casting furnaces. I have built multiple iron casting furnaces in which I use my knowledge of design and fabrication to make furnaces that are both works of art and function to cast metal sculpture. Functional art is a great interest of mine and I will continue to explore this idea. It is my goal to constantly try new ways and new materials to build furnaces. With my furnaces I want to reach out to the communities and teach them the art of casting metal sculpture.
